چکیده
Abstract. The Main Ethiopian Rift (MER), where active continental rifting creates specific conditions for landslide formation, provides a prospective area to study the influence of tectonics, lithology, geomorphology, and climate on formation. New structural morphotectonic data from central (CMER) southern (SMER) support model progressive change in regional extension NW–SE recent E(ENE)–W(WSW) direction, driven by African Somali plates moving apart with presumed contribution NNE(NE)–SSW(SW) controlled Arabian Plate. formation polyphase reactivation faults changing stress field significantly increase rocks' tectonic anisotropy, slope, risk slope instabilities forming. According geostatistical analysis, areas prone landslides MER occur steep slopes, almost exclusively formed normal fault escarpments. Deforestation is an important predisposition because rockfalls typically bushland, grassland, cultivated land cover. A detailed rift escarpment Arba Minch revealed similar affinities as MER. The role of climatic and geological events in generating diversity in Ethiopian grass frogs (genus Ptychadena)
Ethiopia is a world biodiversity hotspot and harbours levels of biotic endemism unmatched in the Horn of Africa, largely due to topographic-and thus habitat-complexity, which results from a very active geological and climatic history. Among Ethiopian vertebrate fauna, amphibians harbour the highest levels of endemism, making amphibians a compelling system for the exploration of the impacts of E...
متن کاملCharacterization of Water Level Variability of the Main Ethiopian Rift Valley Lakes
In this paper, the water level fluctuations of eight Ethiopian Rift Valley lakes were analyzed for their hydrological stability in terms of water level dynamics and their controlling factors. Long-term water balances and morphological nature of the lakes were used as bases for the analyses. Pettit’s homogeneity test and Mann–Kendall trend analysis were applied to test temporal variations of the...

متن کاملLandslides Zonation Hazard: relation between geological structures and landslides occurrence in hilly tropical regions of Brazil.
This paper presents a new approach of landslides zonation hazard studies, based on an integrated study of structural data along with geomorphological and external factors, in a hilly regions of Brazil, covered by a tropical humid rain-forest, called Serra do Mar. The Serra do Mar consists of a hilly region along the east coast of Brazil, with high slopes and many geological structures in a gnei...
متن کاملGeological factors contributing to landslides: case studies of a few landslides in different regions of India
Landslides – mass movements of rock, debris or earth down a slope – are worldwide phenomena which cause significant damage and an estimated 5000 fatalities each year. They are caused by the interplay of various natural and anthropogenic factors and occur under diverse geoenvironmental conditions. In India, landslides occur primarily in the Himalayas of North India and in the Western Ghats of So...
